1,000 Olongapo families get running water after 30 years

OLONGAPO CITY—Until not too long ago, water in two of this city’s villages was considered “gold.”

Now, more than 1,000 families in the hills of Kalaklan and Barretto villages finally have access to running water after waiting 30 years to have the precious commodity flowing through their tap.

This modern-day miracle finally took place after mayoralty candidate Vic Magsaysay mobilized his team of engineers and plumbers to install in the three areas of Dumlao, Skipper and Abra St. about 8.5 kilometers of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes that carried water to the hillside homes.

Connected to a series of large water-storage tanks and several public water stations, the system taps a spring source in the Kalaklan Ridge, a stony spine of land flanking Olongapo to the west and separating Barretto and the upper parts of Kalaklan from the rest of the city. Read More...

My contract with Olongapo City. – Mayor Vic Magsaysay

Ø Gawing libre ang pagpapa-ospital para sa mahihirap.

Ø Gawin libre ang cadastral survey ng lahat ng mga lupain para mapabilis ang pagpapa-titulo ng mga lupa at mapaunlad ang kinabukasan ng bawat pamilya.

Ø Gawing libre ang kasalukuyan P300.00 na garbage fee na illegal na nakapatong sa electric bill.

Ø Gawing libre ang business permits para sa maliliit na negosyo.

Ø Gawing libre ang pagpapa-aral sa elementary at high school sa mga pampublikong paaralan.

Ø Gawing libre ang technical at vocation training para sa mga out-of-school-youth at sa mga walang trabaho.

Ø Pagbab ng 30% sa lahat ng bayarin sa Lungsod ng Olongapo mula sa buwis hanggang sa mga business permits.

Ø Pagsugpo sa korporasyon at katiwalian upang hindi na lumaki ang utang ng Olongapo sa kuryente sa NAPOCOR na umabot na sa P1.7 bilyong piso dahil sa di umano’y mismanagement ng Public Utilities Department, ayon sa sagot ng City Hall. Nagbibigay na ng Notice of Collection/Disconnection ang NAPOCOR noon pang Hunyo 16, 2009. Bukod pa dito ang utang ng Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Olongapo sa tubig sa Subic Water.

Ø Pagbibigay ng kabuhayan at pagpapalawak ng mga Sports Development Programs sa mga kabataan upang masugpo ang paglaganap ng droga sa lungsod. Sa kasalukuyan, dahil sa kapabayaan ng kasalukuyang administrasyon, 82% ng mga nakakulong sa Olongapo City Dictrict Jail sa Baretto ay mga drug-related cases.

Ø Pagsasaayos ng mga sirang kalsada, patubig at kuryente ngang walang palakasan.

Ø Higist sa lahat, walang magnenegosyo at magtratrabaho na kamag-anakan ni Vic Magsaysay sa City Hall ng Olongapo.

Olongapo City --- LAKAS-Kampi mayoralty bet Vicente Magsaysay outlined his program to reduce business costs by 30% to spur re-investment, increase employment and encourage entrepreneurship.

He also vowed to modernize the road system, reduce power rates, and provide free titling to ease the impact of the economic downturn by lowering costs and giving access to capital.

'Babawasan ko ng 30% ng taxes and fees, dahil ngayon sa kurakot lang naman ito napupunta,' Magsaysay told some 100 teachers and scores of student leaders here yesterday.

The Philpost Bank chairman and former Zambales governor believes that lower business costs, coupled with a mass land titling program, will mean more employment, more re-investment and spur consumer spending. (Read more)
